It’s Not So Absurd

October 21, 2009

Tell me why the autumn air
Tries to pin me down
Get in my bones
And make me
As cold as it

Doesn’t it know
That I’ve got a love
She burns deep from my marrow
You can’t stop that fire
Once it’s lit

Better learn quick
The way she warms me
Is a secret
That’s never been told
With spoken words

Her arms wrap me
Like they were made to do so
One made for another
Now when I think of it
It’s not so absurd

Catching

September 2, 2009

breath after moments
looks from eyes
feelings on you
now I know it’s true

meaning

fall if you may
fall if you might
fall your hardest I say!
the catch is well underway

leaning

forward after anticipation
backward from embrace
into on kiss
now there’s no stopping this

cleaning

past from the mind
past from passing
past is so behind
break the button labeled rewind

arms open for the catch
the most beautiful girl
my dame, my Match

like bouquets of crimson and clover
i’ll catch you, my love
over and over

Just Be

September 1, 2009

My success defined
As heartbeat fast or slow
Lower my ear to your chest
It’s not the only way to know

Exquisite opposing forces
Thinnest wire on balanced knee
Hold on neither loose nor tight
The compass pointing to “just be”

Tear drops and a nervous swell
Which one is seen on the outside
Little mental natural disasters
Can be survived when we are beside

Just let me be
Just be
In the presence of you
In the presence of me

The First Sight Ever Seen

August 28, 2009

This evening
Playing the part of past
Will be a lake
Depthless and vast

Calm and dark
The surface, glassy smooth
Ripples only form
If you step back in and move

I sit alone
Gently on dewy hillside
A view of it all
Spot cleared for my equal beside

In the role of future
The up and coming brilliant sky
Infinitely wide
And twice as big measured high

One can’t predict
How this play will unfold
When witnessed live
It’s a unique site to behold

See the stage
Flat and even horizon line
It is the present
The place where your eyes meet mine

Walking toward me
Moonlight showing the way
Curves upon curve
Summer dress, tempo’d sway

I rise to greet
Reach for your hand to grasp
Share a warm embrace
The two of us forming a clasp

Still holding
I lower you to the ground
Alone feels so long
Until the day that you’re found

As we lie
Side by side, backs to the grass
The play goes on
Time can’t be the only thing that lasts

Drifting to sleep
Ghosts from our beds now rise
Marching in twos
Matched even, forward facing eyes

Down the hillside
The cadence created from
Clicking bone heels
What we were, not what we’ve become

Behind follows
From the closet, skeletons pair
Free from our thoughts
They dance so free, not a care

Line formed
This past parade marches on
Down to the lake
The final rest before dawn

Not a single drop
Of water is displaced
They enter together
With an air of dignified grace

The sun rises
Marking the start of the next scene
Our eyes slowly open
Like the first sight ever seen

The Beautiful Struggle

August 27, 2009

binds, bars, and breaks
become
bows, bridges, and bandages
making me think
i can handle this

pain is placed neatly on shelves
of a safe with no combination
in the back of the basement
close the door for
forever plus more

we take the stairs to
an escalator or two
then the elevator up a few
floors above heaven
what a view
air so crisp
it’s like it’s brand new
and now we are falling, in lieu
of a love everlasting and true
let us continue

will you

shall we

transcend in the mental
and physical sense
Buddhists call it nirvana
this love religion gives up past for lent
lease to buy, not rent
arrows stick and bleed roses
shot from a bow that’s bent
pulled back with the strength of respect
held by the hands of care
aimed by hope and belief
this is what Shakespeare meant

creating moments of good daily
trying to square up with the bad
fuck that
i’m an odds man
i say 100 to 1 we can
outnumber, outduel, out love
olive branches and dove
be at peace
lead by example for my nieces
protect from harm my nephew
lessons for him, I have a slew
maybe you do too

we’re gonna rise
with our upward looking eyes
if dreams can be thought
then they are real
it takes work to give them feel
so you can grasp
that’s the deal
fair exchange
for priorities arranged

of those to whom
much is given
much is expected
from us
this will be respected

sometimes it’s a struggle, beautiful

you make the struggle beautiful

The Lighthouse

August 26, 2009

You are so weary
Rowing for what seems like years
In your little wooden boat with its two wooden oars
So many storms and rough seas encountered
Your bow raises up and pierces through

Beating sun and chilling moon
You row and row with an iron will
A breath and a dream inside you
You reach a point of tire and yank back on the oars once more
Slicing through liquid
Blood pumps through your strong shoulders like gasoline on fire

Belief and hope your only guiding stars
When something is gone long enough
It’s hard to believe it existed in the first place
Looking to the starboard, port, stern, and bow, nothing
Reality becoming nothing
Nothing becoming reality

Sore eyes close gently
A warm blanket for eyes and soul
Self provided comfort
The first love is the love of one’s self
The flint

A light travels fast and shines hard
We were designed with opaque lids
It forces its way through the cells
Grabbing and pulling its way through
Tender knock on the retina door
Hello

The chamber door opens up
Am I dreaming? Are you?
Land is the ocean’s mirage

My light circles back around once again
Beaming out to you
Carrying with it a message each time it makes a round

I’m going to be here for you

I’m going to protect you

I’m going to take care of you

Just come to me
Just get here
Even if you crash into me
Please, just make it to me

There’s No Place

August 25, 2009

i’ll give you some hours of my days
to shorten the time until I see you again
to lengthen your time with loved ones

go back gently to the place you come from
there’s no place like home
remember gently the place we come from
there’s no place like the place where love is born

your laughter is the soundtrack
to a movie about happiness
and i am auditioning for the lead role
the only time without stage fright

fistfuls of love and emotion
i’ll shove into cellular waves
to gently lap against your heart
timed the same as its beat

hold on and travel well
journeys within a journey
we can make it last
confidence steadfast

no matter where you go
you are never far from
my heart

follow the road of tenderness
get back to me
get back to us
for our love waits

enduringly

patiently

eternally

This is Autumn and you will Fall

November 11, 2008

The trees assume a melancholic stance, staring to the ground at their lost leaves like the new kid in school between class bells.

Darkness falls early and slow, the sleepy eyes of a baby that I can’t help but wonder who the mother is.

This is Autumn and no matter the hold you have on your emotional bearings, it’s tough enough to tilt you on that equilibrium.

This is Autumn and you will Fall.
